Marie Wachinger

Marie Wachinger is a PhD student in Political Theory at the Free University Berlin, where she holds a full scholarship from the Hans Böckler Foundation. Before starting her PhD, she graduated with a MSc in Political Theory from the LSE and a BA from the Amsterdam University College. She also works as a research associate at the Hertie School of Governance.

Solidarity can be evoked for merely instrumental reasons, it can be called upon in an appeal to one’s morals, or it can be depicted as an act of benevolence – and these are all scenarios that sound all too familiar to observers of EU politics.
