David Bailey is lecturer in politics at the University of Birmingham. His research focuses on the decline of social democratic parties, the role of the European Union, and the rise of protest movements. He is the co-editor (with Louisa Parks) of a special issue on contestation and new political alternatives in the context of the European crisis, which is forthcoming shortly with Comparative European Politics. Other recent publications appear in New Political Economy and Socio-Economic Review. He is currently writing a book, Beyond Defeat and Austerity: Disrupting (the Critical Political Economy of) Neoliberal Europe, co-authored with Mònica Clua-Losada and Nikolai Huke, on new patterns of resistance during the European crisis (forthcoming with Routledge).
